“A reasonable B&B - but, Booking.com, it isn’t a hotel, so stop marketing it as one.”
The pub side of the place was pretty good, with solid customer service and decent food that didn't break the bank. The problem was that the owners called it a ‘hotel’ and added a commission fee, so the price felt more like a low‑end hotel room than a typical B&B, which was a bit of a markup. They should give clearer instructions in the room about how everything works—like the overhead light switch, which is on a pull cord above the bed, not at the door, and the water controls, which are also operated by pull cords. We had to experiment before we realized the bath and shower were fine, so a printed notice on the bed would help avoid confusion. The TV was a real let‑down: no BBC channels and a shaky ITV signal, so we had to turn it off and rely on Wi‑Fi to watch iPlayer. Overall, it was an okay stay, but not the seamless hotel experience that the description implied. I’d book again for myself since it meets my modest needs, but for a romantic night out with a partner it fell short, though I understand everything’s pricey these days. It’s fine as a B&B, just not what the “hotel” label suggested.
