The price was listed at $139, but it turned out to be less than half that. The cabin looked unfinished, especially the bathroom: no hot water, only one tap, the shower was an electric fixture hanging from the ceiling with a cord, no towel rack, no soap holder, no curtain, no mirror, and the electric kettle didn’t work. The AC was positioned so it covered two rooms. When I complained, the owner—who wasn’t even on the property—offered a discount and I paid 60,000 pesos for two nights.

The complex is pretty nice, but the wooden cabins are lacking. We had to swap cabins because the toilet was clogged and water was leaking underneath. The shower was uncomfortable. The duplexes were better, but there was too much mothballs everywhere. The wooden cabins just weren’t up to par.

The wifi never worked, we didn’t have enough glasses or cutlery for all of us, no cups at all. There was a ladder without a railing—chairs were put in place to prevent falls. Basically, no WiFi, no cups, unsafe ladder.

Close to Mocona Falls, the staff were friendly, the attached restaurant was nice, and the countryside view was good. But the place was rustic, the climb up was steep, equipment was sparse, and the electrical setup felt old. The shower had no hot water, just an electric unit that made you worry about getting shocked; you could go from icy cold to boiling hot in a moment. You could even wash your teeth in the toilet. The chalet was hooked up to a makeshift electrical system.

What I liked most was the location and the friendly staff. It’s very picturesque. There’s no breakfast service, no kitchen in the cabin, no cutlery, plates, cups or glasses. But for what I paid, I was fine. There’s a fridge, AC, wifi, and an electric kettle. No covered parking. When we arrived they told us the place was less than a year old, so they’ll keep improving. I was a bit worried about the uneven entrance, but that’s typical of El Soberbio.
