“Quiet and comfortable home away from home!”
We loved the charming walkable town of Tronadora. Our cabin was just right. It seemed small at first to think about living there for over a month, but it was perfect! We settled in and had everything we needed. It isn’t really designed for long stay, but everything worked. We prepared most of meals there, sometimes walking into town for fruits and veggies, sometimes driving to the next town or even Liberia for supplies. Once our host found out we really were cooking everything there, he even got us a bigger pan to make life a bit easier! Kees was always working on something to clean, repair or improve, but he was never too busy to chat. He offered suggestions for places to go or things to do. Sometimes we should have asked him for recommendations before we chose something else. He was always pleasant to chat with. He and his wife were both excited to share cool things with us, like sloths in the trees in the garden! And Griselda kept our place swept and clean sheets and towels when needed. Our little cabin felt like home and we were sad to leave. This location takes a while to get all the way around the lake to LaFortuna (up to an hour and a half once), but we could easily get to tourist type attractions on that side of the lake when we wanted to, while enjoying a more peaceful town. It was a excellent home base for us to explore everything the Lake Arenal area has to offer and for a reasonable price. I loved swimming laps in the pool, when it wasn’t stormy. We loved breakfast by the garden and all of the wildlife who visited there We would definitely stay here again. Nobody can control the weather. We knew we were coming during the rainy season, but could never have predicted the perfect alignment of el Nino and a couple of stalled tropical storms in the Caribbean. It was far more rain than we expected. But the nice thing was we could settle in comfortably and enjoy a quiet day in, or just get out and go in the rain. And when I needed some Vitamin D therapy, it was only 2 hours to a beach! Got my fix and returned “home.” The temps were so cool and pleasant and breezes constant. Paired with our fan, we didn’t really miss a/c. If you are there for short stays, you will love it. If a long stay, be prepared to battle kind of constant dampness, that can lead to mildew. This is not a problem with the property at all! It is just the climate, a Costa Rica thing that caught us unprepared. In fact, our hosts offered tips for us to help prevent mildew, and offered to help with laundry even to get things “dry-er” Pura Vida!
