Pousada Dalva

The location of the pousada is wonderful, right in front of the sea and close to everything. Dona Dalva is a wonderful person, and overall the rooms have a certain comfort! The pousada needs a renovation of its facilities, as I saw many broken and worn‑out items over time. My room didn’t have a mini‑fridge, which bothered me a bit. That’s why I felt the daily cost was high compared to what was offered.

“Péssima estadia, infelizmente.”

Dona Dalva, the proprietária/gestora, seemed attentive. The accommodation was poor and the environment very unsanitary. The place had several cats, adults and kittens, very close to the dining area. Food scraps were left next to the eating area, and a “quartinho” where they lived was right beside it. Cats also rested at night on the table where breakfast was served, and there was a strong odor of cat urine. We preferred not to take the offered breakfast. The booking said “pay before arrival,” so I thought the card had been charged; when we left on the last day to have breakfast and anticipate early departure, we received a message that payment hadn’t been made. I checked, confirmed no charge on the card, paid via Pix, and everything was fine. Shortly after, a staff member came looking for us; I informed her we had already paid and showed the receipt. If she had noticed the card wasn’t charged, we would have left on the first day. We stayed because the cats didn’t access the part where our room was located.

The host and staff were very polite, but there were a lot of stray cats roaming around the property.

Dona Dalva is very helpful and tries in every way to help; the location is close to Praia do Centro and its bars, but away from the main center. The rooms and the café are simple and acceptable. The pousada has a large space and great potential to provide a pleasant experience for guests, but some points need attention and improvement to make the stay more comfortable and welcoming. I had trouble finding the pousada because there is no visible identification at the entrance; I had to ask locals for directions, which can be tricky depending on arrival time, as there is little foot traffic nearby. The presence of many cats in the common areas is another issue; while I’m not opposed to animals, the smell in those spaces is quite bothersome. Since the establishment hosts different guests, it’s important to find a solution that preserves the animals’ well‑being without compromising hygiene and visitor comfort. The property feels somewhat abandoned and lacking maintenance in some aspects. It’s clear the place had better days, and managing such a large space can be challenging, especially for an elderly person. Some maintenance and organizational improvements would make a big difference. The lack of a mini‑fridge in the rooms is also a negative point, as it hampers storing cold water, drinks, and foods that need refrigeration—a simple item that would greatly increase convenience during the stay.

Everything was amazing—Mrs. Dalva is a fantastic host, and my family and I felt super welcomed. Galinhos itself is gorgeous, and we’re already planning our next trip.
