“The management was very poor”
The lake and the fireplace were nice, but we were utterly exasperated by the complete lack of support and compassion from the management and owners of Lake Naverone. During our stay, my family unfortunately became victims of horses that bolted (26 Sept 2026). The situation was terrifying: one rider was forced to jump and roll off a galloping horse onto the gravel, while another sustained deep, bleeding facial lacerations when the second horse ran into a tree. When the grooms radioed for help, the owner (Paul) arrived completely empty‑handed without a first aid kit. The very first words out of his mouth were, “You signed the indemnity form, and the hospital is 1 hour and 30 minutes away.” He then drove four of our shaken family members back to the reception area, offering absolutely no further support—no water, no place to sit, and no bandages. We were essentially dumped at reception to wait for the remaining two family members to walk all the way back from the airstrip where the incident occurred. While we waited with bleeding injuries, we had to witness Paul showing off his dog’s tricks to other guests, completely ignoring us. The co‑owner/manager, Jenny, also rushed past the injured guests just to check on the grooms. She immediately judged us as “city slickers” and made her own deductions about the incident based solely on questioning two young children. Management made no effort to engage with the parents; the dog tricks were clearly the priority. There was absolutely no follow‑up on our well‑being that evening or the next morning. At checkout, they still did not ask how the injured guests were doing, and they maliciously charged us the full price for the horse ride. A simple act of human kindness was all that was required. To other travellers considering this holiday destination, please note: • Management ruins the location: While Lake Naverone itself is spectacular, your experience is entirely dependent on a management team that lacks basic empathy.
