“Overnachten in Antwerpen”

A large, clean room and bathroom, a good bed, friendly reception, decent breakfast, parking garage under the hotel, and a big city park opposite the hotel, but the hotel is on a very busy street.

The room was very spacious with a fantastic bed. We didn’t have breakfast (the price per person was high and we didn’t eat many breakfasts), but it looked good. In the bar you can also order a croissant separately with the coffee in the morning. The service was good and the staff were friendly. The room price was reasonable compared to other hotels, although drinks and food were quite expensive. The location is great and valet parking is available.

“Fawlty Towers (UK 1970s sitcom) experience!”

We had stayed at the sister hotel near Antwerp Airport before, so we were hoping for a similar experience. The food at the restaurant was well cooked, but the service was slow. I didn’t get my glass of red wine until after I finished my steak! Breakfast was good, but it was cleared away at 10:15 even though the stated weekday time was 10:30. The swimming pool was very nice. Our room was spacious with a bath and shower. We arrived at the property to find that the advertised valet parking was unavailable. The receptionist told me I could use the car park at my own risk for €35 per night. I checked the height limit and it said 1.8 m, yet a van exited, so I’m not sure if that warning is accurate. That height is too low for my vehicle, so we had to park at the central station. After a night’s sleep we discovered that both elevators were out of order. Our room was on floor 4, so we had to use the stairs to reach the swimming pool and breakfast. Exhausting! When we got to the pool we found no towels were provided. I assume this policy is related to the hotel’s issue with guests walking through the lobby bar to use the pool, as there are signs everywhere stating they don’t like it. Luckily the elevator was repaired by checkout. Be aware that cyclists race past the hotel entrance—it’s an accident waiting to happen. In my opinion, if you want a reliable stay, use the VDV hotel at the airport instead of this Park Lane address.

The staff were professional and welcoming, especially the bar staff. The breakfast was varied and delicious. It would have been nicer if the towels in the rooms had been of higher quality and a bit thicker. In the gym I would have liked the equipment to be checked to ensure it was in proper working order, and for there to be a set of dumbbells and an additional workout bench.
