“Great location, but ruined by misleading 4-star standards, filthy room, and rude service.”
The location is perfect: right across from the train station, making arrival and local travel very convenient. Christine was a helpful staff member – courteous, kind, and made you feel welcome throughout the stay. The bed itself was comfortable enough for sleeping. The shower was powerful and hot, working brilliantly. Complimentary toiletries were provided: towels, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were supplied in the room. The room fell far below acceptable hygiene standards: the carpet had visible stains, surfaces were dusty, the bathroom skirting board was rotten from water damage, and the bath tiles were lined with black mould. No lift or luggage assistance: guests had to haul heavy bags up two flights of stairs with zero staff help. Inappropriate luggage storage: suitcases had to be left inside a disabled toilet next to the bowl due to a lack of proper facilities. Compromised security: the keycard door lock was broken and substituted with a flimsy, cheap lock. The breakfast was extremely disappointing and far below 4‑star standards, offering only basic cereal, bread, and fruit set up in a hallway. With no hot food, eggs, or meats provided, guests had to carry items back to a room that lacked any proper seating area. It was the poorest hotel breakfast I have ever experienced. Unprofessional service: when issues were raised, staff publicly dismissed them at the reception/bar with “You get what you paid for” and suggested leaving.
