Kyoto Higashiyamaso

The staff who greeted us were incredibly friendly, immediately took care of our luggage, and offered to keep it until check‑in. They handed us a map, told us about the area and interesting spots worth seeing, and answered all our questions. The hotel and the room were very nice and well‑maintained in a traditional style. Everything was clean, and I definitely recommend using the onsen (you can reserve a specific hour for exclusive use) and the traditional breakfasts served on site – it’s an extremely interesting experience.

An outstanding stay, and the highlight of our time in Japan. We were welcomed warmly from the moment we arrived, and that tone never dropped once across three nights. The staff were genuinely attentive rather than merely polite — they anticipated what we needed, handled every request without hesitation, and made both of us feel looked after personally rather than processed. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The room was beautiful and immaculately kept, and the in-room service was excellent throughout. The breakfasts were a pleasure to wake up to — thoughtfully arranged and served with real care. The Onsen baths were wonderful, and exactly the thing you want at the end of a long day walking Kyoto. What made it special, though, was the ryokan experience itself. The whole atmosphere of the place is calm, warm and authentically Japanese. It is the kind of hospitality you read about and then rarely encounter. The location is superb as well — up on the Kiyomizu hillside, so Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka are a short walk away, and you are inside the neighbourhood that everyone else queues to visit. My wife and I could not have asked for more. We recommend Kyoto Higashiyamaso without reservation, and we would return in a heartbeat. Our sincere thanks to every member of the team

“Great stay, would definitely recommend”

Not often does a hotel come so close to perfect. The breakfast, rooms, private baths and location were all very good, and the staff service was great. Nothing to add.

The staff were very accommodating and made the stay feel welcoming, and our room with the view was breathtaking.

“素敵なシルバーウィークになりました”

We checked in late around 9 pm after dinner, and the staff handled us politely and told us we could use the bath until 10:30 pm because no one else was next in line. It was great to have the private bath. The room offered a perfect view of the Gojūno‑tō at Yasaka, and we could walk to Kiyomizu‑dera in the morning before it got crowded, then enjoy a luxurious breakfast with tasty flavors. After checkout, when we drove back, the staff let us keep the car and guided us through the alley to the Gojūno‑tō my mother wanted to see, even took photos, and after we got in the car they helped us navigate the increasingly crowded streets. I’m truly grateful. My mother, sister, and daughter made good memories. Thank you. I would have liked a toilet in the room because my elderly mother was there. The washbasin was fine both in the room and on the same floor, but the light near the bathtub could have been a bit brighter.
