“Fine, except for the tub issues, the sort of thing that can stick with a person.”
I didn’t get breakfast. My wife only wanted coffee, and that wasn’t worth $20 plus a tip. An à la carte menu would be nice. I had requested a bathtub room in advance and asked again at check‑in; I was told the room had a tub. When I got to the room, there was no tub. I had to return to the front desk, leaving my wife in the third‑floor room I’d been given, and learned that there is a list of rooms with tubs and the clerk simply hadn’t checked. I eventually got a fourth‑floor room with a tub, but had to go through hoops with the desk, my luggage, and moving floors. The desk clerk should have checked in the first place and avoided the drama. No need for all that, especially since I’d requested the tub when I made my reservation. On the plus side, I stayed at another hotel in Durham a month earlier, requested a tub, was sent to a room without one, then sent to another room (again with no tub) and finally sent to a third room “guaranteed” to have a tub—and it still didn’t. I gave up after three tries and stayed in the room without a tub. So your staff was better than the one at the other hotel, although I’m really wondering if anyone pays attention to special requests or listens to the guests.
