At least there’s a place to stay in the desert and the hot water for showers is plentiful. The cleanliness leaves something to be desired—the sink had a dead fly, the bed slats are old and creak, and the breakfast staff were still asleep in the restaurant, only waking up around eight o’clock.

Ahmed Safari Camp is a lovely place to unwind completely. The staff are very friendly and eager to help with tours. The pool shown in the photos was closed, which was disappointing, but there were several hot springs around the hotel where we could swim.

“Great spot for an overnight on your way to see the Black and White Deserts.”

Breakfast was the same every day: boiled eggs, flatbread, and salad. The owner kindly arranged transport from Cairo airport to the camp (about a 5‑hour drive). Because we couldn’t stay overnight in the desert, he set up a day trip to the White Desert and a tour of Bawati village with the same driver, who was excellent. He also arranged a different driver to return us to Cairo; he cared a lot for our safety even though he spoke little English—truly a gentleman! The Wi‑Fi was slow, but they managed to speed it up a bit, which helped a lot.

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel, especially appreciating the hot bath it offered, which was a perfect respite from the cold desert climate. The hotel truly provided a comforting retreat in the midst of the desert's chill.

“Relaxing compound with comfortable accommodations in the Bahariya Oasis”

My stay here was a pleasant surprise, given my expectations of a rustic camp. The peaceful grounds, complete with roaming cats, chickens, and pheasants, and the beautiful date palms and bougainvillea, made for a relaxing environment that was conducive to writing. While the rooms were small, they were clean and charming, and the staff was friendly, particularly when greeted with some Arabic phrases.
