Mustafa’s house is a lovely spot, the neighbourhood feels safe and quiet. We enjoyed a very good breakfast and a nice rooftop. Our bathroom was very clean. Mustafa took us to see part of Nubian Island, which was great and exactly what we wanted; he made everything easier.

The hosts were incredible—accommodating and kind. Elephantine is a very unique place, and our room was large and even had a steamer for clothes. If you are AT ALL interested in birds, take the boat tour; it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. It is at the bottom of Elephantine and there isn’t much else around there. The building has two hotels in it, and the owner of the other one was…less than pleasant when we ran into him on the rooftop. The bathroom for our room wasn’t in the room, a small inconvenience, but worth noting!

You can stay in a calm area of the island, enjoy a nice rooftop terrace, and have a delicious breakfast. The owner couple were very kind from the start, but at checkout they claimed we hadn’t paid for items we had already paid for, and when I explained it, the husband seemed annoyed and the wife and others shouted at me.

Everything was very clean, and I really enjoyed the quiet because no cars are allowed on the island. My hosts went out of their way to ensure my comfort while I was there. I found it a bit deceiving that it was advertised as close to some attractions; yes it is as the crow flies, but you first have to get on a ferry and cross the Nile to get there.
