The spot was close to Barcelona’s main sights and getting a cab outside was a breeze; the room was roomy, spotless, with a large bathroom and dressing area, and the facilities were solid. The staff helped move our luggage, called a taxi, and answered any other questions. However, when checking in I asked if there was a security deposit because I wanted to pay it by credit card for easy reversal, yet the front desk charged me €173, claiming it was city tax. I paid with a prepaid forex card, then saw the booking listed the city tax at €73. I called reception and they confirmed the extra €100 was a security deposit. The problem is that the charges weren’t clearly explained at check‑in, so I would have chosen a credit card if I’d known it was a deposit. Also, since it was charged to a prepaid card, I’m unsure how and when the deposit will be refunded. Another issue was the sound insulation: the walls were thin and we could hear noise from neighboring rooms and the floors above, which was especially disruptive at night.
