“Best place to stay for old school travellers”

This is the best spot for old‑school travelers who enjoy socializing, eating together, and going on trips, especially if they’re not afraid of natural elements; the location is ideal for the beach and sunset. A German couple named Mimi and Steffen, who have been staying there for four months, are friends with the owners and will help you with anything; they’re very nice people. It’s not suitable for rich, spoiled, snowflake influencers who want to spend all day on their iPhones and tablets; those folks should go to the other end of the beach where the trees have been cut down and concrete rooms with AC and hot water have been built to shield influencers from insects and heat. A brief lesson on beach trash is needed because I often read influencers complaining about it; the trash isn’t the fault of all locals. When the wind blows from the west, the sea brings in trash that boats have dumped far out at sea. Locals try to keep the beach clean as best they can. I was there during the season when the wind blows from the east, so there was very little trash on the beach.

“Séjour presque magique.”

It’s a dream location, great value for money, and the couple who welcomes you with a smile is super friendly. Don’t forget Nicole’s dishes – a delight! The only downside is that it’s very clean where you’re standing at first glance, but once you step away just a little, there’s trash. Still, it remains a small paradise.

The house sits in a breathtaking beach setting, quiet and surrounded by nature. It has all the essentials. The food, always freshly cooked and very tasty, was excellent – thanks to the amazing chef Nicolina! The only drawback is that the amenities are very basic and minimal.

The island and the homestay were really nice, but there’s no infrastructure – no small shops, warungs, or even a decent beach bar/cafe. Especially in low season everything is closed and in a pretty rundown state. Without a scooter it’s very difficult. You’re also forced to buy every meal at the homestay, which is actually quite expensive for traditional Indonesian cuisine. The food is usually good and plentiful, but it would be fairer and more customary here to include meal prices. The entire coast, every beach, and even the nearby hinterland are littered with plastic waste. Most of it has washed up from the sea, but it’s barely cleaned up. Locals say they’ll do it in April. Even on the small beach (which is actually beautiful) I had to spend hours picking up trash before a few kids were sent to help. The next day it looked like nothing had been cleaned. It would probably need to be done twice or three times a day and the trash burned instead of piling up five meters away. The truth is there’s no waste disposal infrastructure or environmental awareness among the local population. It might work better in the main season, but there are many large resorts, some very big, and new ones are being built. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to go there. It could be a real dream island, but the sea itself is clear, calm, and good for swimming – yet with the litter around, I’d rather not recommend it to my friends.
