I spent four days in Siwa at a private home, staying in a double room. Bianca, the owner, runs the place with help from Omar, her assistant, and they’re a bit out of town among palm trees and lush gardens that supply fresh produce and herbs for the salads and teas she makes for breakfast. The location feels romantic, but there are stairs to reach the rooms and the fridge and dining area are downstairs, which could be tough for older or disabled guests. Bianca and Omar eased things by offering room service for my husband and me. The view from the room is stunning both day and night, and the room itself is clean and lovely. Getting to town for dinner or to the historical sites in Siwa is pricey, but the cost is justified by staying in such a beautiful place. We’re already planning a return visit.
