“Distressing and disappointing”

We had no positive aspects to mention. We were supposed to stay near Horton Plains National Park, but after driving hours in the rain at night, the owner told us there was no room for us. He sent us back down the valley for another hour to a different location, which turned out to be a dirty converted warehouse. The whole experience was distressing and very disappointing, with no Wi‑Fi, no hot water, and no ventilation.

The family next door took care of the rooms while the host was absent, were friendly and warm, and even invited us for tea, which we appreciated. That was the only bright spot. We spent one night at Rahangalaedge Ohiya, where the accommodation was very basic; it was very cold at night and the blankets were extremely thin. The room and bathroom were not as clean as expected, the bed and pillows were very hard. The dinner, brought by the host, was tasty, but breakfast was disappointing—no plates, only a small knife, and the selection was very limited. We cannot recommend this place in good conscience; even our Sri Lankan friends were very disappointed.
