“Alojamiento engañoso”
The only redeeming factor was the attentive service from the gentleman who did his best within his means. I had to start my review knowing this was a budget, very simple accommodation and I didn’t expect luxury or major amenities. Yet the difference between a modest lodging and a “rat‑hole” is abysmal because the place is filthy. First, the staff manipulate information (and they know it) by listing three different locations on Google Maps to confuse tourists. I found this place on Google Maps because I was looking for a spot near Bacalar’s central square. The map listed CASA SHALON GREEN, and I booked through Booking. When I arrived at the marked location, the hotel sent me a different address on the outskirts of town; the real name was HOTEL GRAN SHALON. I told them I’d booked CASA SHALON GREEN and they said it was the previous management but the same place. The property itself was not modest or simple, but a disgusting, neglected, mosquito‑infested mess. (I attached photos, even of the palm of my hand with a dead mosquito). The sink was filthy, the bathroom mirror splattered with toothpaste, the toilet bowl had no lid and was covered in cobwebs. There were no towels, soap or toilet paper— we had to request them. The shower vibrated and made a loud noise, and there were only two phone chargers for a three‑bedroom room. The photos of the place look like they were taken in the 1990s, but the current condition is very different. A disgusting place. Don’t be fooled.
