“Very disappointing”
The staff were understanding when we checked out a night early, but they didn’t follow up with apologies, a refund, or compensation. We had a truly disappointing stay and left after one night even though we had booked and paid for two. The room was unbearably noisy, with the generator running all night and the sounds of neighboring rooms—conversations, light switches, and toilets flushing—interfering. It also smelled damp and musty. Our view faced the car park, and since it was full, we had to park elsewhere in town. The mattress was so soft it felt like a water bed; the whole bed moved when we sat down, even though neither of us is particularly large. Breakfast looked good, but the muffin for my Eggs Benedict was cold and untasted, and it was served whole with an egg and sauce on top instead of sliced in half as I’d expected. The hotel’s charm and quality simply didn’t meet expectations, especially considering its fascinating history. The owners’ connection to Malmesbury, heavily promoted on the website, doesn’t compensate for their lack of understanding of what makes a pleasant guest experience.
