The host was an elderly lady, so we mainly communicated with gestures; she didn’t intend to use a translation app, and after a brief introduction in Japanese she left. There are plenty of restaurants and a FamilyMart within a 5‑to‑10‑minute walk, making the location convenient, especially if you’re on a budget. The bathroom entrance has a sliding curtain that offers little privacy and is right next to the public area entrance; after rinsing you have to step out to change clothes, which felt a bit awkward and made the whole process feel rushed.

A great place to stay for one night on my pilgrimage through Shikoku, the price is a real highlight, and the communal room on the ground floor is nice. The house feels a bit cramped, with many guests in a small space, and some parts look a little dated.

I slept in a comfy bed, but the area offered few services, and the teenage guests in the adjacent room clearly hadn’t been taught hostel etiquette—so I got bitten twice, maybe by bedbugs?

The location is decent from a driving perspective and there’s parking; the room holds six people on the second floor and is a bunk setup, with towels and toiletries provided for showers, and the first floor offers a public lounge to relax. Important: remember to press the bell before entering the house so the owner will come out. Taking the bus is less convenient, and the shared environment is hit‑or‑miss; mosquitoes bite more at night, which is a bit annoying.
