Located a three‑minute walk from Arugam Bay surf beach, the property provides immediate access to surfing, water sports, and scenic coastal landscapes.

The bed is uncomfortable, and there are cockroaches in the bathroom.

The place sits close to the beach and other market stalls, and the family running it is friendly and welcoming, making you feel at home. Towels and linens were changed, and the shared kitchen was handy for cooking while drinking water was provided. However, the wifi was unreliable, frequently dropping out and requiring you to get close to the source for a decent signal. The floor can become dusty and sandy due to the wind, and the building isn’t fully roofed, leaving large gaps that let wind blow the stove’s flame away. If you bring fruit or vegetables, store them in the fridge or your room because monkeys roam around—one even stole a mango. The room can heat up significantly during midday because the roof is made of red clay brick or shingle; painting it white could reflect heat and keep non‑air‑conditioned rooms cooler. A few roaches were present. I could find a similar place in Indonesia for half the price I paid here.

The owner is lovely and the atmosphere feels homey. It’s modest, but there’s drinking water and a fridge, which is a plus. The hostel is close to the beach and caters to people of various religions in the Muslim district. The only downside is the lack of a bench in the beautiful garden.

The location is very peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of Arugam Bay. The hosts are extremely hospitable and caring.
