Breakfast was decent, but you should at least get a discount for staying at the hotel. The room was dirty and smelled like animal urine; the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed. Things have deteriorated since my last stay, and I’ll pay extra next time to stay somewhere decent.

Even though the room didn’t include a free breakfast, the diner next to the hotel pleasantly surprised us—we ate supper and breakfast there. The corridor had an unpleasant smell, and when we entered our room it was very warm because the air conditioner was set to heat instead of cool; it took several hours for the room to cool enough to sleep comfortably.

The room and bathroom were very clean, Penny’s diner was great to have nearby, and the hotel was very quiet. Some of the towels had stains.

From the start the wrong credit card was charged and they said they couldn’t fix it. I smelled gas in the hallway and told staff, who said it was nothing. When I woke up the main hallway door to the outside was propped open with a floor fan venting air, and the motel’s smoking area was right outside that door. Later, three firetrucks and an ambulance arrived to evacuate the motel because they found a gas leak and had to shut it down that morning, so we couldn’t even prepare for the funeral. I had booked two nights in two rooms but didn’t feel safe staying another night. We traveled to Low Moor, VA, to bury my dad, and my whole family, including my 2‑year‑old grandson, could have been harmed or even killed because nobody listened when I said I smelled gas. It was a difficult time, and adding this chaos was beyond disappointing. I didn’t stay the second night and had to drive 8 hours back home after burying my dad because my money was tied up on the wrong card that they charged during check‑in.

The spot was super convenient and I really enjoyed the restaurant on the property, but there’s no elevator.
