“Great location - bring a physical Credit card and skip breakfast!”
The hotel was centrally located and close to the bus/lynx station. We were in town for an NFL game and could comfortably walk to the Bank of America Stadium, and we also walked to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which was enjoyable. The rooms were very pleasant, and we stayed in a King‑size room. We paid extra for breakfast, but the options were very limited and very disappointing, so we ended up eating breakfast at the diner next door to the hotel. We arrived at the Aloft at 9 pm on a busy Saturday night after traveling around DC/Virginia/North Carolina for the previous two weeks staying in numerous properties without needing to use a physical credit card to pay deposits for car hire/hotels (we also have used many times in other countries and not used a physical credit card). However, Aloft by Marriott required a physical card as part of check‑in and could not offer a virtual card, passport, etc. It was an extremely stressful situation because neither party could cancel our booking and we were left without a place to stay. The front desk staff were helpful in trying to find a solution, but we did not find the manager on duty very helpful and found her quite rude. Aloft seems to think a physical card is more secure than a virtual card—unclear logic! It wasn’t a good start to our stay, but thankfully it didn’t ruin our short stay in Charlotte.
