Andon Ryokan, located near Minowa Subway Station, boasts award-winning architecture and traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring and futon bedding. The ryokan offers a hot tub, bicycle rentals, and cultural activities like tea ceremonies and flower arrangement classes. Shared facilities include toilets and a launderette. Western breakfasts are served in a common kitchen, 10 minutes from Ueno downtown area.

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and the tatami room was set up functionally with plenty of storage.

The place is stylish and the breakfast was excellent, plus the futon beds were comfortable. The jacuzzi was a nice bonus. The only drawback was that there was just one shower, none on the ground floor where my room was, and the third floor seemed shut off – for a hotel of this size and the price, that felt a bit low. Also, it didn’t feel like a full Ryokan experience; you had to pay extra to rent a robe, for instance.

Minimal and simple, it made getting around Tokyo a breeze! The breakfast was fantastic!
