The inn up in the upper part of Szczawnica is quite decent, offering 19 simply equipped rooms with balconies and nice views of Palenica, set in a quiet, peaceful area. Mrs BASIA, who runs the place, is a master of guest service—she checks from breakfast that everything’s in order, suggests a wealth of local attractions and clearly knows them inside out; she’s extremely competent and friendly, making the stay at SKALNYM truly special, so I highly recommend it. The building shows its age and some room fittings could do with more modern replacements; of course, anyone looking to nitpick in a typically “Polish” way will find something to complain about, but those flaws didn’t bother me since I knew I wasn’t booking a 3‑star hotel but a long‑standing mountain guesthouse.
