The bungalow was nice and spacious, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a small river. However, it might need some “refreshments” and “renovations.” Expect to wake up early—the rooster will take care of that.

Nestled in Pai’s lush valley, บ้านวังปลาปาย offers serene garden terraces and free Wi‑Fi, perfect for unwinding amid nature. Each room boasts a private bathroom, electric kettle, balcony overlooking the river, dining table, refrigerator, and wardrobe. Located 109 km from Mae Hong Son Airport, it sits near Pai Night Market, Bus Station, Wat Phra That Mae Yen, Pai Canyon, and the WWII Bridge.

The place was very clean and the room was nice, with a beautiful surrounding area. It’s a bit out of the way, but a scooter works fine. The signage isn’t great, so you’re not sure at first if you’re in the right spot or where to find people.

The spot is near a river where hammocks are available, and there’s also a restaurant on the property.

The property sits on the Pai River at the far northern end of Pai, in a rural agricultural setting with beautiful fields, woodlands, and villages. It’s quiet and relaxing, with bright stars at night and a close connection to northern Thai ecosystems. My unit was the newest of four and was clean, simple, spacious, and comfortable—everything I needed. Being right on the Pai River is wonderful—listening, watching, swimming, hammocking. Small rapids give the river a voice to accompany the birdsong, and there’s a swimming hole 100 m upstream. The ladies who run the restaurant are warm and friendly, offering a simple, inexpensive menu from 10:00 to 18:00. The dining area consists of shaded bamboo platforms with pillows, hammocks, and picnic tables right on the river. The property is a great alternative to the busy, crowded tourist areas of Pai. It’s a ten‑minute (5.5 km) scooter ride to the Pai bus station. Across the river, a few hundred meters away, there’s a village with a restaurant, store, gas station, and a place to refill drinking water. (Note: please refill water bottles at these stations to reduce plastic pollution and save money.) Highly recommend for a rustic river experience close to nature and ecology, with hammocks, a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, a hot shower, and fresh, healthy Thai food.

I found the location handy, just a 10‑minute bike ride to town, and the river side bamboo shelters were a nice touch. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, but they weren’t cooking anything until after 9 am. We had already paid and confirmed our booking, yet the staff didn’t seem prepared for us; we waited over 30 minutes at check‑in with no compensation. The room wasn’t ready at 5 pm, even though we’d been traveling from Nakhon Sawan for 17 hours on a 2 am bus. It smelled like fresh construction and still needed finishing touches. The 20 m² room only had a table, a bed, and a water cattle; the bed was hard but new. There was a small fan but no AC, and speaking English was a bit difficult. The sink leaked, and everything felt brand new and unfinished before bookings were accepted. We were the first guests, so the key came from a new padlock. The area was safe, mostly locals, and the Wi‑Fi was slow, which was fine in this remote forest spot. Despite everything, the staff still welcomed us with a 🙏.
