I had a lovely stay at Casa Samay. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming. I availed of many of the great activities on offer, including a road trip around the island, a Mexican cooking class and a day of Scuba diving with Miri’s Adventures - they were all brilliant and I couldn’t recommend them enough

“Excelente atención de Miri, pero instalaciones deficientes y problemas graves de chinches”

Miri was a perfect 10‑star helper, very kind and quick to fix any issue. I booked diving through the host and Miri handled everything, taking me straight from the hostel, which was super convenient. I did get bedbugs all over my body, which was awful at night and forced me to leave a day early. I had to wash all my clothes, backpack and shoes on the last day and pay extra for a treatment, which I was too embarrassed to mention. There was no hot water all week because of a fault, even though Miri tried to fix it fast. The room had no ventilation window, only a door, so it got very hot and humid; the AC didn’t solve it well and made it hard to sleep. I give it a 5 because I was happy with Miri, but the accommodation itself was a 0.

“Fantastic hosts, friendly people, homey environment.”

I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Samay! The whole hostel feels very homey – the kind of comfort you get when staying with family or friends. With Miri around, the hostel experience feels seamless and easy, with great communication and plenty of activities ready to go. If you’re diving with Miri Adventures, you’re picked up and dropped off right from the hostel, so no taxis or marina trips. The location is great: convenience stores are close, and there are tasty food options a little away from the touristy waterfront so you won’t be overcharged – but you can still walk to the pier if you want. I stayed in the 4‑bed female dorm: the beds are quite comfortable and large for a hostel, the sheets are clean and soft, and the AC works well. A strong fan is available during the day in the room and lounge while the AC is off. I never had a cleanliness issue – the staff and other guests keep the place tidy. A cooler for cold water is also there. And the little tortie Catalina greets guests and is the cutest receptionist you could ask for 🥰. The shower water pressure was on the weaker side, but it’s fine enough (and probably more eco‑friendly). Sometimes there’s noise from the street or neighboring building, so bring earplugs if you’re sensitive; I needed them for one night of my four‑day stay.

The place is close and quiet, but the single room beds feel a bit hard.

Check‑in was comfortable and the facility is decent, and it’s fairly close to the center. The studio was disappointing for the price of about 60 USD, especially compared to other Cozumel options: it was dark, damp, faced the shared courtyard, and offered no privacy. Cleaning was poor, especially in the bathroom, which was full of insects. The shower wasn’t separated from the rest of the room, so water splashed everywhere when turned on, and there was no hot water with very low pressure. The photos promised a kettle in the room, but we had to use the one in the communal kitchen. I wouldn’t recommend it for the amount paid.
