They promised a fantastic place, but it was very mediocre. First, the hotel looked nothing like the photos—either the photographers were outdated or heavily edited. The rooms were old, dull, and lifeless. The windows were wide open upon arrival, which caused the next issue: our room was infested with small flies—thousands of live and dead ones on the bed, walls, bathroom, and near the door to the property. It was unacceptable for the price. We left at midnight to head home, driving in the early hours and losing £250. When we raised the issue, they refused a refund and were patronising, saying people from “the city” and “the south” forget about flies. I’m from the area and my house has never had flies, and the city we come from is more northern than the hotel. There’s also no EV charging, and you can’t re-enter after 10:45 pm. I’ll never stay here again; it’s a stain on Cumbria, and I’m ashamed to be from the same area. It’s an embarrassment. Don’t stay here—there are many beautiful locations nearby.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was good, and the grounds were attractive; a bathrobe was provided, and coffee with a cafetière was on the bedroom tray; the building itself is interesting.

Dinner was very good, but at breakfast my wife's bacon was very hard and my poached egg was underdone.

Beautiful hotel. Booked the stay for my son and his girlfriend to break up their journey from Perthshire to Derbyshire. The hosts were warm friendly and helpful on the phone and when they arrived. They had a lovely stay and breakfast. Nothing
