“A very cosy stay in a charming part of Oxford”
It was my first visit to Oxford and the Lodge suited me perfectly. The room was lovely, with a large window that let in plenty of light and could be opened for fresh air. The spot was great: a quiet street, not a ghost town, with a nice pub and café nearby and a 20‑minute walk downtown that I enjoyed every morning and night. I arrived three hours early, the room was ready, so I could drop my luggage and explore the city. A pleasant walk along the canal is about five minutes away. The front door and rooms use codes, so there’s no need to carry or lose a key—brilliant. Oh, and the charming Jericho neighbourhood with its restaurants, pubs and cafés is less than a ten‑minute walk away. The only downside was that there was no body soap or shampoo available, but I didn’t mind much because I had my own.
“More misses than hits unfortunately”
The location was good, the cosy feel and decor were nice, and the check‑in process was easy. However, the pillow had a damp, wet, stale smell; the floor towel was stained; the toilet seat didn’t fit the toilet—its odd size made sitting uncomfortable; the bed was next to a fridge that emitted a very bright light, so I had to cover it with a pillow; the room was very small; and there were no toiletries—no soap or shampoo.
The property was clean, newly renovated, and close to the city centre. However, the rule of changing sheets after 10 days feels excessive; a 5‑day minimum with an exception option would be better, especially since you booked for 9 days and ended up with stained sheets.
“It was excellent. We will go back again.”
The garden, a fan in the room, TV, location, Waitrose, and the soccer field were all great, but there was no air conditioning.
“Not a hotel, but clean and fairly convenient.”
The place was super quiet and the beds were comfy, but it’s a 10‑minute walk from the train and bus station, tucked in a very quiet residential area. The house has six bedrooms and a shared kitchen‑living room, no on‑site staff, and you get in with a code. The communal staircase smells stale, yet the room itself was clean.
