“Beautiful Cedarburg - just ensure you insist on solid communication from the staff.”
The chalet was fully equipped for self‑catering, which was impressive; all the utensils we could possibly need were there, including decent pots and pans, a large fridge‑freezer, and even kitchen scissors, and the air‑con was helpful. However, staff communication was seriously lacking—from emails to actual messages. On my husband's surprise birthday weekend, he asked for a menu, local activities, and whether anything was guided, but received no reply. When we arrived, a WhatsApp message asked for our ETA and told us to take Ceres Way because Clanwilliam Road was closed; we sent our ETA but never got a response. The receptionist at check‑in couldn't explain why we hadn't been answered. When it rained, the kitchen floor was very wet; we called the phone number that had been provided for ETA, had to call twice before someone answered. The maintenance guy came within about 15 minutes, which was good, dried the floor, and fixed the issue. Later that afternoon, it rained again and the same problem occurred; this time no one answered the phone at all. In a lodge like that, communication is key. With no other way but to drive to reception for info, you’re basically on your own.
