“Medium-sized ryokan with a nice onsen”
A medium‑sized ryokan with a nice onsen, including an outdoor bath overlooking the mountains; the room was clean and fairly spacious. The welcome felt quite cold, and the property needs maintenance—empty, neglected lounges give off a melancholic vibe.
It’s a place I’ve visited many times as a child, and this time I brought my own kids. Even after 30 years, it’s still clean and well kept.
They showed me to my room and even saw me off from the front desk on my way out, which felt refreshing amid the many unmanned hotels popping up these days.
There was plenty of nature and sea nearby, and attractions such as Ōuchi‑juku and the Tower of Hetsuri were within easy reach for a relaxed tour. When I tried to park, the lack of white lines forced me to line up my car next to the first vehicle that was already there.
“安かろうの中では結構良い”
The price was low and, despite its age, the place was surprisingly clean; the mountain‑surrounded location was nice, although the window in my room offered no view at all. The on‑site hot spring was small but pleasant, making it a good pick for anyone looking to stay on a budget. Fixing up the gate and re‑wallpapering would make it perfect, but that would raise the rates, so it’s fine as is; the only oddity was the direction of the shower water flow.
