Everything about the place is gorgeous, clean, and well maintained, and I keep coming back again and again.

The shower was amazing, but I wish we had a cabin instead of the barn so we’d have more headroom; the host and hostess were a lovely couple. I booked the barn expecting extra touches, and while we had a cooker and hob, there was nowhere to sit and eat because the table was a small collapsable laptop table for one; I ate my breakfast on the bottom stair of the staircase, and a small preloved table would fit nicely around the corner. There were no bedside tables (no furniture at all in the bedroom except a freestanding hanging rail and a small folding chair), so there was no lamp for when I got up at 3am to go to the toilet. The bed is in the apex of the loft, so I had to army crawl to the stairs and didn’t knock myself out in pitch darkness. One tiny mirror in the bathroom meant I had to guess if I looked okay when getting ready to go out, but thankfully my sister‑in‑law brought a full‑length mirror that we left behind for them. The barn is roadside, which was noisy throughout the night, so I came home very tired.

The shower was hot with good water pressure, the kettle was large, and the carpet on the stairs was soft underfoot. Sleeping was upstairs in a very low attic (a guaranteed head banger) with gaps under a little locked door and on the roof below the window – cold! The ceiling in the attic was too low to stand in to change in or to walk around the bed (no, I’m not tall). The bedroom was drafty and cold overnight; the heater is not effective in that context. Bedding is poor quality and not warm enough to defeat the draft in the bedroom – wear your clothes to bed (April). Pitch dark when you first enter the kitchen and bathroom – lights are essential. No soap in the bathroom – just handwashing liquid in the kitchen. Towels are unsuited to drying anything.

Very comfortable, but the internet doesn’t exist.
