“Que de petits plaisirs”
We traveled across Italy away from the usual tourist routes, so we chose Convento San Bartoloméo. It’s truly a beautiful and unique stop: the site is an old convent restored by a family for three generations; there’s a wow effect when you open the door, but it’s real, not Disney. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, not air‑conditioned but at 900 m altitude with good mosquito nets, so we rediscovered a cool nighttime atmosphere that was a bit forgotten (we went there in the heat). Dinner in a room covered with 13th‑century frescoes was another experience. Breakfasts, snacks around the pool, and dinners flowed with pleasure; kudos to the chef, the menu was varied, simple, and tasty—thanks, because the nearby village has limited options. The rural calm, superb views, another Italy. Special thanks to all the service staff, attentive and smiling. The pool is heated by geothermal, so we never felt cold. There’s a strong Italian clientele of regulars who know the best spots.
On a friendly note, we’re curious about the management: where is the director? Is it the man on his phone all day in the office? Or the lady who left us to figure it out on a Sunday afternoon with our luggage on the upper floor? (I’m 80 years old). Where are they? They deserve compliments for running such an establishment in this place, rebuilding it with taste, maintaining the beautiful garden amid the heat, keeping quality staff, including the chef, restoring all the wonders of this magical place that almost disappeared abandoned. We need to go back to thank them.
