“In need of rebranding”

The hotel sits on gorgeous grounds with impressive architecture and the room itself was spot‑on. The only real drawback was the language barrier – apart from one young receptionist, nobody spoke English, and I didn’t get the assistance I’d hoped for. It felt more like an old‑school Chinese operation than a modern one.

I loved waking up to that calm, beautiful garden view – it set a relaxed tone for the whole stay. Everything around the windows was neat and quiet, making it a pleasant spot to unwind.

“Don't stay in the remote North Building. Stick with the East Building”

The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff I did meet were polite, which was nice. Unfortunately I was assigned to the North building, a ten‑minute trek from the East side where I checked in; that wing was dim, pretty isolated and had almost no front‑desk staff. I ended up walking with my luggage to catch a shuttle, which took another ten minutes – not ideal if you’re not mobile or if the weather turns bad.

“Picturesque hotel with fabulous gardens / lake and superb sports facilities”

The grounds around the Dongjiao State Guest Hotel are stunning – think immaculate gardens, lake scenery, and a top‑notch sports centre with indoor tennis courts and a decent‑sized pool. My room was spotless, the bed super comfy, and the staff (especially my driver Eric) were eager to help. The only thing that could be better is a wider variety of food options in the restaurant.
