Located in the Altenessen district of Essen, the Astoria Easy Hotel Essen is a 5-minute walk from Karlsplatz Underground Station. This hotel features classically furnished rooms with free WiFi, private parking, and a sauna. Bright rooms come with wooden furniture, cable TV, and spacious private bathrooms with showers. A buffet breakfast is served in the bright breakfast room, and the historic city centre and Essen Exhibition Centre are a 15-minute drive away.

The location was fine, and massage, whirlpool, and sauna were offered at a very reasonable price. However, from 8.50 a.m. nothing was restocked for breakfast, and in room 159 the kettle had no automatic shut‑off, which is very dangerous.

The location was good, but the room was dirty with a lot of dust and clearly old; the entrance of the annex was very filthy. Breakfast was sparse and hardly restocked even when arriving at a normal time. We only saw staff at the start, then nobody else—no cleaning lady, no front desk, and breakfast staff were rarely present.

Breakfast was okay, but I stayed in the "Comfort" part of the building, and the name definitely does not match the reality. The room and the whole building feel completely worn out and run down. There are stains on the bathroom tiles, more stains on almost every wall, a dirty carpet, and the paint is flaking in places. The stairwell is untidy, with leaves from trees lying on the carpet that has probably been there forever. The mattresses are terrible—so soft that when you slide to one side they sink in and you roll out of bed. On the first night I got a parking spot, but parking is very tight. I booked a relatively good rate but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
