It was a special place to stay, nicely arranged by the owner. We entered the property through the gate, which was open at that time. We had previously arranged an approximate arrival time with the owner via the booking platform. When we passed through the gate, a clear audible signal rang. We assumed this meant our arrival had been noted and that the owner would greet us. That did not happen. We looked around the property, which surrounds the owner's house, and saw the treehouse at the back. There were a few other accommodations, but since there was only one treehouse, it was clear that this was ours. At the treehouse we noticed the key was simply on the door, giving us the impression that we were allowed inside. Immediately after, I sent the owner a message to inform him we had arrived and were in the treehouse. Shortly thereafter, the owner visibly became furious. He responded sharply and said he had never experienced guests simply walking in and taking a stay. We apologized right away and explained how the situation had come across to us. Yet he persisted in this for a long time. His manner of responding gave us a very unpleasant feeling. We felt as if we had done something terrible or had bad intentions, while we believed there was clearly a misunderstanding. We felt belittled by his attitude and not at all welcome. Even after our apologies, he repeated the incident, which ruined the atmosphere for us. What we did find positive was that he offered to store our bicycles, which were parked behind the car, inside. We appreciated that. Unfortunately, his earlier reproachful tone still dominated. The next day we left in a proper manner. The lady who waved us goodbye seemed much friendlier.
