“A Very Special Place, Just a Few Small Updates Would Make it Magnificent”
The property was very quiet and beautiful. The host was very friendly and seemed to live there with her son. This is a very old‑school, European countryside experience, like stepping back in time. Breakfast was wonderful, with baked goods from a tiny bakery nearby, plus juice, coffee, bread, jam, yogurt, and more. She also offered eggs. We had dinner one night; it was very good but very traditional French (think duck liver pâté, duck confit, local veggies, cheeses, etc). If you're picky, it might not be for you. She brought us drinks to the outside table before dinner and it was very peaceful. We had our drinks while feeding the ducks and exploring the property. She was able to make my son some plain pasta, which was good for him. Food is cash only at the property. You eat in a central room with tables surrounded by suites of armor and trophies, which was a great touch. The room we stayed in was very large, with traditional furnishings like older chairs, a four‑post bed, an antique armoire, tapestries, all authentic. A stone spiral staircase led to the room, and a sitting room/library on the second floor could be from the 15th century. The building was built in the 14th century and the upper floors were added in the 16th, and it really feels like things haven't changed much, in a good way. The room could have been a little cleaner; there were some cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom and elsewhere. I had to kill a large spider in my room (but I can't say that's the property's fault as you are in the middle of the country and it could have snuck in at any time). The TV was very outdated and we had a hard time getting any channels, and you can't do Wi‑Fi on the TV to stream anything. There were holes in the walls that needed patched due to hanging curtains and things. The bathroom and shower could be cleaned a little better, with some nicer towels.
