“Except for fireplace smell, and sand on floor, all was very good”

The breakfast and dining suggestions were good. The fireplace in the room was a surprise and had a strong smell from previous fires, and the beach sand wasn’t vacuumed thoroughly.

“It was awful. They should have refunded the first night. Curtis should have shown up during crisis”

We liked the breakfast; that was the only thing we liked, to be honest. The first night was a nightmare. The room had flying insects—maybe termites?—but I caught them in a small glass and set them outside. The blankets had holes. The bigger problem was the fireplace that was already set up with wood and paper ready to light, with a sign saying not to touch the flue. I lit it expecting a cozy night, but thick black smoke filled the room. I had to use small glasses of water to put it out. The smoke alarm screamed and stayed on for about 30 minutes. I called the emergency number and Curtis answered; he was unhelpful and didn’t even come down to check on us. He could have at least moved us to a smoke‑free room. It ruined our night and we barely slept. We complained the next day and asked for a full refund for the room. We had another night booked with an upgraded room as part of a two‑night stay, but they only refunded us about half for the first night, which seemed unfair since we were staying another night. Why were we charged anything for the first night? This was the first time I left a two‑day trip feeling exhausted and needing a few days to recover.

The rooms feel very homely; you can light the stove in the room and it feels romantic. Breakfast in the morning is intimate and small, and the host is friendly. The room is on the street, so when the garbage truck comes you can hear everything.
