“Muy recomendado”

The hostel is perfectly located near the beach. I slept in a shared dorm with a private bathroom and a very comfortable bed. The large kitchen had plenty of utensils and a fridge with ample space for meals. Breakfast was included and was genuinely delicious and filling. The owner was very friendly and booked me a reasonably priced tour of Coiba Island, which included fresh seafood. The atmosphere was great, letting me make friends and share experiences while traveling alone. I’ll definitely come back!

“Got bed bugs from which the owner previously knew”

Comfortable beds and good equipped kitchen. Upon arrival we asked the owner about bed bugs, since we saw a google review that said they and 4 other guests got bed bunks in this hostel. The owner said bed bugs are normal because the fluctuation is very high but they try everything to get them rid and throw away everything if the room when there are some bed bugs. It turned out that wasn’t true, we got a room where a guy stayed just before us from who the owner knew that he had bed bugs in exactly this bed. Many rooms were free. The owner didn’t care and put us in this room, and of course we also got them now. very annoying and something that definitely could have been avoided! Also the hostel is run down, sad to see because it could have a lot of potential. Common areas are not comfy, defo too few bathrooms for the number of guests it can host

The rooms were clean, there were multiple bathrooms, a large kitchen, and laundry facilities. The jungle area had everything we needed. We happened to be there during the Panama earthquakes in October, and owner Frank looked after us, ensuring everyone had food and water and helping the community. It truly felt like a home away from home during that time.

“Would not recommend”

The hostel had A/C, but it was the dirtiest place I’ve stayed in Central America. You had to plug the water in to use the taps, showers, and toilets, and the bathroom was disgusting throughout our stay. Rooms and bedding felt grimy and dirty. No one was available for our free breakfast, so we had to wait, and when the staff returned they told us to make it ourselves. There was no drinking water.

This is the best hostel I’ve been to in Panama so far. The kitchen is clean and well equipped, and overall cleanliness is exceptional. Host Andy is professional and provides useful information on various local topics. One issue to correct is that the hostel has two names—Urban and Jungle—and the search on Booking and Google Maps does not match. But Santa Catalina is small, so you can’t miss it.
