My wife and I spent two nights at The Gordon Hotel and overall it was a pleasant experience. The hotel sits in a quiet spot and offers free, unrestricted street parking, plus a grassy area right in front for guests. The owner greeted us warmly, offered tea or coffee on arrival, and took our breakfast order at the same time. It was a bit odd to decide what we wanted for breakfast so soon after arriving, but it felt personal. Pre‑ordering everything helped cut waste and meant breakfast was ready in advance. Our room was light, airy, clean, with a comfy bed and nice linen. Breakfast matched our pre‑order. The location was ideal for exploring: next to Peasholm Park, about a 15‑minute walk to North Bay, roughly 10 minutes to the Open Air Theatre, and about 25 minutes to South Bay. We enjoyed the stay, appreciated the friendly welcome, peaceful setting, and good breakfast, and would book again. One thing to note for future guests: the main photo shown on the listing doesn’t reflect an actual view from the hotel, so it’s worth mentioning to set accurate expectations. There were a few small issues that could use attention. Some furniture in our room looked a bit tired, the door catch was wobbly and we had to use a small spoon to move it back into place to exit. We told the owner when we left, and he said previous guests had lost the key and forced the lock, promising to fix it. The bathroom toiletries were disappointing; the soap was watery instead of gel‑like, and there was no shower gel. We didn’t bring it up during our stay, so we bought our own. At about £100 per night, it felt a bit pricey, but we later learned a Tom Jones concert was happening nearby that night, which may explain the higher rate.

The hosts were friendly, breakfast was brilliant, the location great, and everything was very clean. The electric shower was a bit temperamental.
