I walked up the hill to Motovun and found the hotel pretty nice; I’d recommend it.
“A wonderful experience in Istria!”
We stayed to celebrate our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience; the hotel’s unique atmosphere had every detail carefully considered, from décor to rooms, and ours featured mirrors and vibrant colours that were a feast for the eyes. We ordered à la carte for dinner, and the fresh truffle and surprising selection of cured meats were delicious, while the staff explained the dishes beautifully. The Istrian Malvasia wine was fabulous, and the spa and pool offered breathtaking valley views; even the two saunas looked out onto the beautiful greenery. The cocktails were expertly made and everything was spotless and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail. The only suggestion for improvement is the shower in our room, which didn’t close completely, letting water escape and flood the floor, making drying difficult; a fully enclosed shower or better drainage would help. The breakfast buffet had an excellent range of savoury options, but as someone who loves sweet breakfasts I was disappointed by the limited sweet choices.

The decor was great and the staff were very friendly—especially Ivan’s wine recommendations at dinner, which were exceptional and made our honeymoon special. The only downside was that the spa needed a 15‑minute warning, which wasn’t clearly signed until you got there, so we couldn’t use it in time.
