Hotel 1898, a restored 19th-century building, stands on Barcelona's iconic La Rambla. Its colonial-style architecture holds Speciality Monument status. Elegant rooms feature free Wi-Fi and marble bathrooms. A rooftop pool with sun terrace, stylish restaurant, and bar-restaurant with terrace serving Mediterranean cuisine and tapas are offered. Plaza Catalunya and Gothic Quarter are within walking distance.

The room was excellent and the staff were fabulous. The location was a big plus for us, and the hotel has a lot of character. Breakfast was fantastic and worth the price. La Rambla is under renovation for the next few months, which made it hard to get taxis to drop us at the main hotel door; they ended up dropping us across the street on the opposite side of La Rambla, which was inconvenient with luggage. Once the hotel knew this, they helped arrange taxis to the ship and airport. They were wonderful.

Breakfast was excellent and the staff were wonderful; the location was perfect. We did have a water problem on our first night—no hot water. They moved us to another room with hot water, but that didn’t happen until after 4 pm the next day, which was tough after a long flight. They handled it well, even upgrading us when a better room became available. I’ll definitely recommend this hotel and stay again. We’ve been here many times and never had a problem before. IT IS OUR GO‑TO PLACE FOR BARCELONA and will stay that way.
