The staff were the highlight, all super attentive, friendly, pleasant, and eager to help; from reception to housekeeping to the breakfast area, everyone treated me wonderfully, especially Dona Ana, the waitress, whose meticulous care made breakfast special; after staying a week I met most of the team, so I can say Dona Ana and the others are the gem of Valparaíso, and the lodge is welcoming, very clean, and well‑located for easy travel. On the downside, the Wi‑Fi signal was awful, and the steps to connect a phone were long and confusing; the breakfast area had many leaks, and because I stayed on rainy days I saw the water seepage making the space unhealthy; in my room the trash cans had no handles on the lids, either because they were old or poorly made, so we had to touch them with our hands—better to use foot‑activated cans; the hot air from the room AC only worked for the first 15 minutes after turning it on; the TV had no picture, only sound; the paper towels were so cheap that I had to use a huge piece to avoid getting my hands dirty, a cost‑saving that definitely didn’t pay off. In short, the lodge urgently needs structural renovations, stronger internet, and more care for electronics and common items.

Breakfast was very good, and the cleaning and linen change service were handled with care; however, the window lock in the apartment was broken, and because it was on the ground floor I felt unsafe.

The Valparaiso hotel is a great pick if you’re watching your money but still want a solid spot in a lively area, and locals even recommend it. The rooms are basic yet comfy, and we especially liked the breakfast and the staff who were always ready to help. The only downside was that we stayed on the ground floor with a wall view, which made the room a bit dark during the day.
