Very disappointing: lack of cleanliness, maintenance, and management. It seems the owner, a certain Sebastien, was on vacation in Senegal during August. During the three nights I stayed, his absence was obvious because nobody seemed to actually look after the place. The toilets were filthy. I never saw the young Mauritian staff cleaning, let alone using bleach. One toilet was clogged for two days with grime left untouched. In my room, the mattresses were covered in sand, showing the cleaning had been done poorly. The breakfast area wasn’t clean either, with dirty tablecloths. The most surprising thing was seeing a group of local youths sitting on the communal sofa all day doing nothing. At night it was the same: they occupied all the sofas, ate, and spent time as if it were their home. The sofas were dirty and the common area was full of flies and mosquitoes. I never saw them perform any cleaning, maintenance, or guest service. When the communal toilet ran out of toilet paper, you had to ask for it; nobody checked. Overall, the establishment gave an impression of total lack of control, cleanliness, and upkeep. I also had a very unpleasant transport experience. I asked a night‑shift worker named Amadou to call a taxi to the bus station. The night before, he told me the trip would cost 100 Mauritanian ouguiyas, but the next morning he announced the price was 300.
