The view and the warm water in the shower were nice. The place feels crowded; it’s huge but the lights aren’t turned on. The bedding looks suspiciously like it’s from the era of the first light bulb and the pillow is made of a strange material. Breakfast contains nothing, and even the coffee costs extra. The room locks with an old key, and the shower only has a handheld shower head. No one speaks English, so communication is impossible. There are no outlets or anything else near the bed.

“Big hotel on a hill”

The hotel sits on a hill with great views. They stored our bicycles and had a decent spa. The rooms and facilities were a little odd. It’s a large hotel but was very empty. We ate dinner alone in a banquet hall, which felt a bit creepy. Nevertheless, it was a good stay and the staff were friendly.

“Entertaining”

The breakfast spread was generous, varied, and tasty, and everyone on the staff was welcoming. The river view from the hotel is fantastic, and we could lock our bikes in a garage. The location is great and there are plenty of communal seating spots and terraces overlooking the water. On the downside, the rooms feel old‑fashioned, the TV only offered one channel that worked poorly, and there were almost no power outlets for our chargers. The rooms were small, with a tiny balcony that had no seating.

The charm of a former socialist grand hotel permeates everything, and if that appeals to you, this place is perfect. Everything works, everything is clean, and the staff are very friendly. If you're after a modern, flashy hotel, this is the wrong address. The view of the Danube is unbeatable, though the last few meters up the hill are still a tough climb when arriving by bike.

“It’s nice as usual”

Location. The entire building needs to be well renovated inside and out. It is quite dark and warm in the hotel lobby
