I appreciated how calm and quiet the place was. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful, but I wish there were closer options for food or groceries.

“Good hotel, but reception needs to be more diligent”

The hotel was clean, comfortable, and set in a rural area about a half‑hour from restaurants. The scenery was nice. Reception recommended a good restaurant/bar called Cafeteria Bidegorri, a 30‑minute walk from the hotel, which we liked for its vegetarian options. When we arrived tired and wet, we discovered that my backpack hadn’t been delivered. This was the first time on the whole Camino trip that this happened. Camino Correos told us that Hotel Matsa reception did not accept our backpack delivery, saying they did not have a booking in that name. We disagreed, because before arriving the hotel my wife had emailed both our full names, passport numbers, phone and address. This caused inconvenience and wasted time as we had to catch a train to Bilbao and go to Correos twice to try to retrieve it. Another issue: we asked for toilet paper in the evening, and the receptionist asked why we needed it, claiming we should already have it in our room. That attitude was not good.

“Great place for a one night stay!”

This rural inn was lovely and the hostess took good care of us. Breakfast was excellent and the coffee was great! The only downside was the location: better signage would have helped us find the right direction, especially since we were walking past Lezama, and it was a bit far from dinner options after a long day’s walk.

The place is surrounded by nature, offers good views, and is very peaceful.

A lovely country hotel with a good breakfast, located close to the airport so it was very easy to reach.
