Wow, what a stunningly beautiful place. One of the highlights of our trip! (Officially 3 stars, but we give it 5 stars) The little house (feel free to call it a villa) even had a dressing room and a lounge. The staff would close the curtains and turn on the outside lights in the evenings, which was a special touch. The food was excellent, the view fantastic. The luggage handlers are iron‑strong (don’t forget to tip them!) and carry your suitcase both up and down (sounds awkward but remember that’s how they earn their living, so you’re doing them a favor). We booked a tea tour with a women's project through Isunga Lodge, guided by the enthusiastic young guide Derrick. Both visits left a strong impression on us with the life stories we heard. And now we definitely see our cup of tea differently. Bring enough Shillings to buy tea and beautiful souvenirs made by the women, because that’s how you help people who really need it (so their children can go to school and have a better future than their parents). We treated the tea pickers to cashew nuts from the Netherlands (yes, imported to the Netherlands), which we happened to have. It’s always a big success to share your own food with the Ugandans, we noticed. From mueslibol to cookies and from cashew nuts to Mentos. (By the way we never give candy to children) At Isunga Lodge you can order a very extensive lunch for the road, including a drink and fruit. Have we mentioned the staff? Very friendly and they generally speak very good English. Finally: we also had a great swim in the nicely laid out pool. In short: we would have liked to stay a bit longer. The steep climb from your house to the restaurant is indeed tough. But there’s a lot in return! Once you’re up, you have the most beautiful view in the world and can relax with a wonderful drink and excellent dinner. Something to keep in mind: there’s some rodents around the house, as is common in Uganda. There’s little you can do about it unless you use the spray from the house (we’re not big fans because of our lungs). Prefer to always wear flip‑flops instead of going barefoot, because you’ll get them in your bed. Pack your food well and don’t leave clothes loose, keep them in your suitcase or hang them on the hangers in the dressing room.

I'm still in awe of my incredible stay at Isunga Lodge. This stunning paradise overlooking Kibale National Park boasts breathtaking gardens teeming with vibrant flowers, birds, and insects. The secluded individual lodges offer ample privacy, each featuring spacious and tastefully decorated rooms with plush beds, a sitting area, and an expansive shower with scorching hot water. Meals are a culinary delight, served in a grand restaurant or under the stars on pleasant evenings.
