“Good”
The room was a good size. It could have had a side light by the bed.

The price was affordable. The common areas were quite dirty, with hair on the bed. The lukewarm water didn’t work in the upper bathroom.

The location was fine, but if you don’t like the sounds of city bustle, this isn’t the hostel for you. The sheets, fridge, and floor were clean. The kitchen and bathroom were clean, but the plastic plants were pretty yet so dusty that they weren’t worth keeping. The building’s door is hard to locate because it’s tiny, but following the door number sequence on the road solves that. The hallway entrance is very uninviting and somewhat shocking, with a range of wires (probably legal) displayed up high, which is worrying and ugly. The digital display for entering the bedroom code was poorly installed; exposed screws pierced my finger (I have documented evidence of my bloody finger). My room looked out onto Roman Road, which I loved; the road is busy and interesting even though it faces low‑rise flats above a row of shops that looked into the room I occupied. The base of the electric, free‑standing fan in my room was broken. The curtains were difficult to draw open; pulling too hard risked pulling down the rail onto the floor, so I left them half closed on a few occasions. Combined with the low‑level electrical lighting, the overall experience at this hostel was depressing. The communal skirting boards were filthy, really filthy with dirt and human hair (location: the blue wooden panel up the side of the stairs) stuck to them. The skirting board had detached from the wall, giving rodents (of which there were none) easy access to the building. The view from the kitchen window drew my eyes down to a junkyard strewn with junk, old bicycles, fridges, and who knows what else, which the owners should have had removed by the council; a very uninviting picture. The bathroom sink and base in the first‑floor bathroom had detached. There was a pool of water in front of the sink, so I couldn’t stand close to it when cleaning my teeth. The sink, toilet, and bath were clean, but there were holes in the wall on the right‑hand side of the sink. Small flies hovered around the windowsill (damp??), so I didn’t put my wash bag on it.

The place offers decent value, but the building looks far from the pictures and feels pretty run‑down. The rooms are very basic and the bathrooms are in a poor state.

The location is the best part and there’s a hair dryer in the room. The bathroom had a leak under the sink that left a puddle, so I told the manager and they put a mat there. The facilities could be improved; the floor is uneven in both the hallway and the bathroom, and overall maintenance is lacking throughout the property.
