A short history
Anaheim began in 1857 as a grape-growing colony founded by Fifty German immigrant families. A blight destroyed the vineyards in the 1880s, prompting a shift to Valencia oranges. Walt Disney bought 160 acres of orange groves in 1953, opening Disneyland two years later and transforming an agricultural township into an international entertainment hub.
