From the outside it seemed like a big hotel, but inside it felt like a family‑run place with a local bar. The whole place had a “historic hotel” vibe, even the rooms had a Bible copy, which is rare in Europe. My room was spacious, the bathroom was included, and the bed was very comfortable with the right size pillows. Wi‑Fi worked well and the staff were lovely; they even gave me a free postcard. The stay was great and worth the price, especially given how remote it is. The only downside was finding spiders in both the bedroom and the bathroom—gross! I also wished there was a charger near the bed, but there is one, it’s just covered by the bed.

The hotel sits on the edge of a small village, with decent parking. My upgraded room had a sea view. Overall, the facilities were good, the staff were helpful and efficient. Breakfast was very good, and dinner offered a nice variety. Nothing else to note, except the weather, which was outside the hotel’s control.

Everything about the place was great. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty. The views from our room were breathtaking. It was the perfect short escape. It was perfect.

This is definitely the best hotel in Shetland. It’s an iconic wooden building full of history and style, and our room offered uninterrupted bay views. The bathroom had just been refurbished to a very high standard. No complaints.
