The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was solid, and the bed was comfortable. A kettle was provided, though no tea or coffee; the host offered a jug of filtered water and a cup, and explained their renovation plans with genuine enthusiasm. A large ceiling fan would have helped during the heat wave, and the room was well lit by the Velux windows. A chair, table and microwave were also in the room. However, the front door lacked a working lock, and an extra £25 deposit was required for the room key. The inner room locks were flimsy at best—I slept with a chair against the door. From my experience elsewhere, I wouldn't call this a hotel, even though the description implies it is; there's no restaurant, the stairs and landing are uncarpeted, and the furniture is far from new. The bathroom next to my room saw heavy traffic late at night and early in the morning, suggesting it might have been the only functional bathroom during renovations. If it had been described as a hostel, it would have seemed more accurate. I was hoping for a slightly more upscale stay and felt disappointed. If I had expected hostel‑type accommodation, some aspects would have seemed decent. In short, I accepted the risk of the front door lacking a lock and the fragile room lock, stayed for the second night I booked, and kept nothing in the room during the day since I didn't buy the room key. The shower and bathroom were clean and pleasant, but the room and building didn't match the description.

Calling this room a "deluxe loft space" is misleading; the photos don't match at all. I called them straight away, told them my son wouldn't be staying and asked for a refund, which the owner granted. The room itself was awful, the bathroom was terrible, the stairs weren't carpeted and looked dirty, there was no TV remote, and the TV was awful.
