How guests rate the property, aspect by aspect.
The resort is beautifully located in the Drakensbergen. They do everything to operate as environmentally conscious as possible. It’s nice that the meals are included. The guided walks are also included and are worth it! All staff are equally friendly, the house is spotless. It wasn’t quite our concept, but that was on us and the age difference with other guests.

Very quiet location in the Drakensbergen. Our room was well equipped and clean. We had full board, the food was very good quality. In the dining room a fixed table is assigned, which we found quite pleasant. Worth mentioning is also the wine cellar, where you can choose your wine for the meal from a large selection. As not very sporty hikers we chose three easier tours (Fern Forest, The Grotto, Natural Pool), which start directly from the hotel, are also easy for beginners and offer great views of the landscape. The spa is also highly recommended. We parked our rental car in the parking area under trees. After 2 days it was “decorated” by bird droppings. They immediately apologized and cleaned the car to perfection. We can recommend The Cavern without reservation and will gladly return.

The room we received was nice—not very spacious, but sufficient. The restaurant was excellent, and we truly enjoyed all the meals. Unfortunately, during our stay it rained nonstop and ruined our original plans. We used the table tennis table and the billiards table, had cocktails, and even played a few games of Rummy (since we couldn’t go on the planned walking trips). We had a bit of difficulty with parking: we arrived with a large car, and the parking area was very cramped. For some reason that I can’t fully explain, most hotels in South Africa don’t have a fitness room. If there had been a gym on site, we would have enjoyed using it during the time when it wasn’t possible to go out for walks
